Ian Dawe has been involved with Positive Steps from the very beginning, working to ensure that those in the most rural areas feeding in to Nkhoma Hospital benefit from referral to Positive Steps and 500 Miles, the prosthetic and orthotic centre in Lilongwe. Many of the villages are miles from the beaten track so Dawe relies on a motorbike to negotiate the rugged terrain (you can see from the photograph below that he had just fallen off!). He sometimes travels half a day to reach patients, often going to visit one or two people in a village and leaving with up to ten referrals to 500 Miles. Positive Steps uses funds to ensure that all associated costs are met; funding the monthly Ambulance Trips, purchasing appropriate footwear necessary for orthotics and prosthetics. Positive Steps pays Dawe a small allowance for his significant contribution … thank you for your continued support so that we can fund this vital work.
