In true Bake-Off spirit … this years ‘Breadstock’ was a great event … held at the beautiful Seaside Boarding House at Burton Bradstock – there were 48 entries in all, spread across the different categories (White Loaf, Brown Loaf, Special Creation Loaf, Three Brownies and Dorset Apple Cake). The judges (seen below with Dani Farrell), were Lesley Waters, Aidan Chapman and Caz Richards.
Once again the organisers, Tim and Dani Farrell, nominated Positive Steps as the charity they were supporting and raised a fantastic £156.25 this year. This was a great community event, but will also make a real difference at Nkhoma Hospital in Malawi.
Last year Positive Steps used the money raised by Breadstock to buy a refrigerator for the Medical Ward. This was really important to the staff there as, prior to its arrival, the only other refrigerator in the hospital was on the Maternity Ward, some way away! Diabetes is a big problem in Malawi and the refrigerator, (seen below with the Medical Ward Nurses and Dr Francis Kachedwa the new Malawian Medical Officer), will be used to keep insulin and other medicines cool.
